In 1944 the Allied Forces reinvaded mainland Europe. It was a hard fought but important victory in the fight to free the world from the threat of tyranny. But what happened next?

In this original programme, hear the story of VE Day through original archive recordings of the events after the Normandy landings to the end of the war in Europe.

Children of Belsen

Misty McCready presents this unique documentary recalling the memories of young inmates at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during the Second World War.

The programme includes interviews with survivors of the camp, poignant archive audio, and first-hand accounts written in 1945.

You’ll hear interviews with survivors Rudi Oppenheimer and Miryam Sommerfeld. Bernard Levy, a British soldier who arrived approximately one week after the liberation, also shares his story.

BBC archive audio featuring Richard Dimbleby, the first reporter into Belsen post-liberation, and Harold-Osmond le Druillenec, the only British National found in the camp, set the documentary in raw historical context.

This programme was made to mark the 70th anniversary of the camp’s liberation in 1945.

Produced by Dave Roberts and Misty McCready, ‘Children of Belsen’ won two trophies at the 2016 New York Festivals Radio Awards and was a winner at the 2015 AIBs (Association for International Broadcasting).

Monday the 27th of January marks Holocaust Memorial Day and this year sees the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp.

On this day we remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions more people murdered through Nazi persecution, and other more recent genocides.

For the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, it’s about bringing people together to honouring the survivors, and to work to build a better, brighter future.

Former RAF Regiment Gunner, Corporal Stuart Robinson MBE is representing Team GB at the Paris 2024 Paralympics Wheelchair Rugby.

Stu found wheelchair rugby after sustaining life changing injuries, when his vehicle hit an IED on a routine patrol near Camp Bastion with 15 Squadron, RAF Regiment.

His team won Gold at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, and now he is Vice Captain of the team for this Paralympics.

George Ryland had a chat to him before he headed to Paris, about his journey and how much the RAF Benevolent Fund, of which he is now an Ambassador, has supported him.
